選詩一,美國女詩人狄金森的 I Died for Beauty;選詩二,英國詩人雪萊的 England in 1819。

I Died for Beauty
By Emily Dickinson
I died for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.
He questioned softly why I failed?
'For beauty,' I replied.
'And I for truth, --the two are one;
We brethren are,' he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a night,
We talked between the rooms.
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.
而我為真理,兩者不分家;
England in 1819
By Percy Bysshe Shelley
An old, mad, blind, despised, and dying king,—
Princes, the dregs of their dull race, who flow
Through public scorn,—mud from a muddy spring,—
Rulers who neither see, nor feel, nor know,
But leech-like to their fainting country cling,
Till they drop, blind in blood, without a blow,—
A people starved and stabbed in the untilled field,—
An army, which liberticide and prey
Makes as a two-edged sword to all who wield
Golden and sanguine laws which tempt and slay;
Religion Christless, Godless—a book sealed;
A Senate,—Time’s worst statute unrepealed,—
Are graves, from which a glorious Phantom may
Burst, to illumine our tempestous day.

在國人騰笑下流過——污源的濁漿;
終會矇矇然帶血落下,無須鞭笞;
已淪為一把雙刃劍,任揮者是誰;
法律則拜金而嗜血,誘民以死罪;
宗教無基督也無神——閉上了圣經(jīng);
