器型小巧精致，別致新穎，包漿醇厚，氧化自然。胎質潔白細膩，薄輕透體，白釉柔和瑩潤，表里如一，杯壁飾圖與型體相配，疏朗而渾然有致。杯敞口微撇，口下漸斂，圈足內凹。杯體小巧，輪廓線柔韌，直中隱曲，曲中顯直，呈現出端莊婉麗、清雅雋秀的風韻。杯外壁飾子母雞兩群，間以湖石、月季與幽蘭，一派初春和諧景象。底心青花雙方欄內楷書“大明成化年制”雙行六字款。或以傳達天倫和樂的子母雞圖，或因帝王的喜愛而深受文人雅士的青睞，故至晚明無不以為“成窯雞缸杯，為酒器之最”，傳說當今存世量只有13個。極為罕見。
成化斗彩雞缸杯是漢族傳統陶瓷中的藝術珍品，屬于明代成化皇帝的御用酒杯。是在直徑約八厘米的撇口臥足碗外壁上，先用青花細線淡描出紋飾的輪廓線后，上釉入窯經1300度左右的高溫燒成胎體，再用紅、綠、黃等色填滿預留的青花紋飾中二次入窯低溫焙燒。
杯壁飾圖與型體相配，疏朗而渾然有致。畫面設色有釉下青花及釉上鮮紅、葉綠、水綠、鵝黃、姜黃、黑等彩，運用了填彩、覆彩、染彩、點彩等技法，以青花勾線并平染湖石，以鮮紅覆花朵，水綠覆葉片，鵝黃、姜黃填涂小雞，又以紅彩點雞冠和羽翅，綠彩染坡地。施彩于濃淡之間，素雅、鮮麗兼而有之，收五代畫師黃荃花鳥畫的敷色之妙。整個畫面神采奕奕，盡寫生之趣。
成化雞缸杯曾于1980及1999年拍賣，均刷新中國瓷器世界拍賣紀錄。類似在1999年在香港蘇富比上拍出2917萬港元，刷新了中國瓷器世界拍賣紀錄。2014年4月8日香港蘇富比舉行重要中國瓷器及工藝品春季拍賣會，估價為2-3億港元的玫茵堂珍藏明成化斗彩雞缸杯成為本次拍賣的焦點。 此次明成化窯雞缸杯估價為2億至3億港元，為目前估價最貴的中國古代瓷器拍品。該雞缸杯早在上世紀五十年代被倫敦收藏家 Leopold Dreyfus 夫人收藏，此后被玫茵堂珍藏。此件拍品從中午12點20分左右開拍，起拍價為1.6億港元，在經過八口競價后以2.8124億港元成交，買家為上海藏家劉益謙。
