1. warn sb against doing sth 告誡某人不要做某事。如：

2. warn sb against [about] sb (sth) 告誡某人提防某人(某事) 。如：
He warned us against pickpockets. 他叫我們提防扒手。
The police have warned shopkeepers about the forged banknotes. 警察已通知各店主要留意假鈔。
3. warn sb of sth 警告(通知)某人會有某情況。如：
We warned him of the danger. 我們警告過他有危險。

1. by the way
(1) 在途中的路旁。如：
They stopped for a picnic by the way. 我們在途中停在路邊野餐。
(2) 順便說，順便問。如：
By the way, do you know where Mary lives? 順便問一下，你知道瑪麗住在哪里嗎?
2. by way of 經由，意在，為了。如：
He came to Japan by way of China. 他經中國來日本。
He did it by way of helping her. 他這樣做是為了幫助她。
He sent her flowers by way of apology. 他給她送去鮮花，以表歉意。
3. in…way 以……方式。如：
Do it (in) your own way. 按你自己的方法做吧。
Please do not talk (in) that way. 請不要那樣說。
4. in the way 擋路，礙事。如：
I’m afraid your car is in the way. 恐怕你的汽車擋道了。
If you are not going to help, at least don’t get in the way. 如果你不愿幫忙，至少你不要妨礙人家。

1. in all weathers 無論如何。如：

2. under the weather 不舒服，喝醉酒。如：

Many accidents are caused by drivers who are under the weather. 許多車禍都是因司機喝醉酒引起的。

3. be well-known to 為……所知。如：
It is well-known to us. 這點我們很清楚。
These facts were well-known to everyone. 這些都是眾所周知的事實。
whole
1. as a whole
(1) 作為整體。如：
We must consider these matters as a whole, not one by one. 我們必須通盤而不是一件件地孤立地考慮這些事情。
(2) 一般說來，大體上。如：
Poeple as a whole don’t do things like that. 一般說來，人們不會做那種事。
2. on [upon] the whole 總的說來，大體上，基本上。如：

1. win sb sth 為某人贏得……。如：

wipe
1. wipe away [off] 擦掉，清除掉，刷掉。如：

1. a wish for sth 希望有(得到)某物。如：
We all have a wish for peace. 我們都希望和平。
2. (a) wish to do sth 想(愿意)做某事。如：

She expressed a wish to be alone. 她表示希望不打擾她。

6. with＋賓語＋過去分詞(短語)。如：
He sat there with his eyes closed. 他閉目坐在那兒。
All the afternoon he worked with the door locked. 整個下午他都鎖著門在房里工作。
7. with＋賓語＋不定式(短語)。如：
I can’t go out with all these clothes to wash. 要洗這些衣服，我無法出去了。

wonder
1. I wonder if [whether]… 不知……。如：
I wonder if I might have a glass of water. 不知是否可以喝杯水。

注：有時為了使語氣更委婉或更帶試探性， 可用一般過去時或過去進行時(但并不表示過去意義)。如：
I wondered [was wondering] if I could use your car? 不知是否可以用你的車。
2. (It’s) no [little] wonder (that)……難怪……，……并不奇怪或十分自然。如：
No wonder (that) he was so tired. 難怪他那么累。

word
1. break one’s word 失諾。如：
I’m surprised to hear that he has broken his word. 我真想不到他會失信。
2. give one’s word 許諾，保證。如：
I give my word for it. 我保證那是真的。
I gave her my word that I would come on time. 我向她保證我會準時來。
3. have a word with sb 同某人說句話。如：
May I have a word with you? 我可以同你談談嗎?
4. have words with sb 同某人爭吵。如：

1. be worth doing ……值得做。如：
The book is well worth reading. 這本書很值得一讀。
She’s not worth getting angry with. 犯不上跟她生氣。
注：該結構中 worth 后的動名詞與句子有動賓關系，但該動名詞只能用主動形式表示被動意義。
2. it is worth doing sth 做某事是值得的。如：
Knowledge is worth working for. 知識是值得努力追求的。
Is it worth visiting the place? 這個地方值得一看嗎?
比較：It’s worth seeing the film. / The film is worth seeing. 這部電影值得看。
3. worth (one’s) while 值得某人去做，值得某人花時間。如：

Such work is not worthy to be done. 那樣的工作不值得做。

1. write down 寫個，記下。如：
Write down everything he says. 把他所說的全都記下來。
It’s written down in black and white. 這是白紙黑寫下來的。
2. write out 寫出，開出。如：
He has written out a first draft. 他已寫出初稿。
He wrote out a check (receipt). 他開出一張支票(收條)。
3. write sb sth / write sth to sb 把某東西寫給某人。如：
Please write me the result. / Please write the result tome. 請把結果寫給我。
He wrote me a long letter. / He wrote a longlettertome. 他給我寫了封長信。
4. write to sb 給某人寫信。如：
He seldom writes to me. 他很少給我寫信。
Write to me when you get there. 到達那兒就給我寫信。
注：有時介詞 to 可省略。如：

5. write to do sth 寫信……。如：

1. be in the wrong 錯了，不對。如：
You are in the wrong. 你錯了。

2. do sb wrong 冤枉某人，冤屈某人。如：
You did me wrong. 你冤枉我了。
He did her a terrible wrong. 他真的是太冤屈她了。
3. go wrong
(1) 出錯，弄錯。如：
I can’t see where I went wrong. 我看不出我錯在哪里。
(2) 出故障，出毛病。如：
The machine has gone wrong again. 機器又出毛病了。
4. be wrong to do [in doing] sth 做某事是不應該的。如：
